I {heart} my Brides!

When I get emails like this, I beam with excitement and I am humbled. I simply love to do makeup and I do fall in love with my Brides.  In Halen’s case, we had worked together for a while as you can see. She sent me this out of the blue and I thank her for her wonderful words and i adore this and I adore her as well! CONGRATS Halen and Ricky!!
Joy! Where do I begin. I found your ad in the Richmond Wedding Magazine back in early 2011. The moment you emailed me back, I knew you were the person I wanted to make “beauty magic” with as you would say! The makeup for my engagement pictures done, 05/05/11, was flawless. It lasted the entire time and more. Then, 04/05/12, the makeup for my bridal portraits was wonderful. You know exactly what colors to use and also allow me to have an input. Then one month later, 05/05/12, my makeup for my wedding could have not been more perfect. I looked great the entire night, even after dancing and sweating! My mothers and my mother in laws makeup was also wonderful, they were gorgeous! You are truly a “Joy” to work with – such a big personality and such a professional. Thanks for everything you did to make me beautiful for all my photos!

Thanks so much,
Halen

{But} who takes the photos?-{an out of the closet moment}

I had the sweetest rising High School Senior in the Studio.  She contacted me on Facebook to find out about representing her school as a rising Senior for Studio FBJ. I call them Senior Reps. The Reps (only 2 from each school in Hanover)  hand out cards to help raise awareness about Studio FBJ and earn free photos in exchange (and cash!) At the”new” Studio FBJ, I do hair and makeup for Weddings, Teens, Tweens, Prom and I also teach makeup application. I have added “Photography” to the Studio, as after many years of having the studio in my own home, it was hard to accommodate all 3 (hair, makeup, photos). With the addition of the studio, I have put all three of my talents together to form Studio FBJ.

I specialize in High School Senior Photos, and I also do Teens, Tweens and Personal Portrait photos. That is my “photography” specialty, and every session comes with hair and makeup!

While she was so very excited to get her hair and makeup done, as she sat there,  she wondered who was taking the photos?

“Will we be meeting the photographer on location?” she asked me.

That’s when I told her….don’t you know…. I was the one behind taking all of the  photos on Studio FBJ Facebook and blog!! ITS ME!! I am the photographer and hair and makeup person!

As we left the studio, I said ” well, we are ready to go find us a photographer now, I think she may be on location when we get there! :)

I am excited to post a few of the recent STUDIO FBJ Senior Reps for 2012.

Cut off is May 15th for 2012 Reps! I think all these ladies are AMAZING!: ALL photos and hair and makeup…by ME! If your at all interested you can find the STUDIO FBJ blog at this link to follow the amazing Studio FBJ!.

Glowing {spring+summer} Skin

Sometimes the trick to great looking skin (drinking lots of water, healthy diet..yada yada…)is not covering UP the good skin and leaving it to breathe!    If you use a ton of product on your face to “cover”  up ALL OF IT, then you WILL defeat the purpose of the healthy skin your trying to cultivate.  I find a lot of people trying to get rid of dark circles or blemishes, only to use to heavy foundation ALL OVER to get rid of these smaller areas.

In this photo below, i used very minimal makeup. A touch of concealer, a dab of foundation(we were on location so no airbrush) and I played her eyes up natural with a little brown liner and a bit of black mascara (black is amazing with blue eyes) and that’s it. I smudged a little cream pink on the cheeks.  I only used makeup where i needed it and blended out or left  the rest alone. A little powder also goes along way. So the next time you look in the mirror… consider ONLY covering what you must (in a lightest way possible) and leave the rest of your skin to GLOW!

April Wedding {rewind}

Working with this Bride was a true Joy! Meredith is warm, friendly, fun and beautiful! I so enjoyed our time together. We actually met a few times before her big day. I worked with Meredith from her engagement photos to her wedding! I just got these in from Katelyn James and I am blown away at how beautiful they are. But then, again, I expected nothing less from Mrs. Katelyn James! Thank you Katelyn for the stunning photos and congrats to Meredith and TJ!

A little Spring Sassy {makeup}This Way Comes…

It took the right look, the right model, and the right day! Around January I got a message from my friend and fab photographer Bob Schnell about doing a fashion photo shoot that he had been thinking of. It consisted of a more dramatic, magazine cover look. We talked, we searched for the right person to pull off the look, we talked some more. Finally in March, the right person presented herself and it was ON! Alex came to the studio in mid March with a car full of COOL wardrobe, ready for a fun afternoon! Bob, as usual got AMAZING shots of Alex! I was very happy with how the makeup and hair turned out! Hair wise, I was looking to go all Vic. Secret with Alex. slightly tousled, somewhat organized messy.  Makeup was a dramatic eye, almost 70′s feel with a simple contoured cheek. I am so excited I got to work on this with BOB! THANK YOU FOR THE PHOTOS!
